“Tide and Trash Short Film Awards”

As earlier noted, our Club Member Claudia Padilla Moran, the Executive Director for Clean Up Baja California Sur, had announced their then upcoming event “Tide and Trash Short Film Awards” that was held on December 6th.  The event was billed as follows:

Tide and Trash, Short Film Fundraiser

  • A captivating showcase of short films focusing on waste management and ocean conservation, with awards celebrating impactful storytelling.

  • Networking opportunities with like-minded individuals and local leaders.

  • Delicious, sustainably sourced dinner, drinks and the chance to connect with artists and innovators. Music, dancing and fun!

This fundraiser is a charitable event where every ticket sale goes directly towards Clean Up BCS’s efforts, including the

massive annual statewide clean-up day, educational programs, and our Trash Monitoring Program in collaboration with

ROC Waterkeepers La Paz.  By attending, you are contributing not only to a cleaner environment but

also helping raise awareness of this crucial issue in our community.

As a follow up, 7 of our members represented our Club by purchasing tickets and were in attendance. It can be confirmed

by all that it was an outstanding fundraising event of the highest quality. Great food, people, music and the short films

on local ecology were amazing. It also gave us the opportunity to work more closely with Clean Up BCS as we share

the common vision of our town and beaches free of trash and debris. A great time was had, and the attendance

showed a real caring for a common cause in our community.

"ADOPT A CAN"

As one activity or action can lead to the next, our Club de Yates Los Cabos has been working on a new project with Clean Up Baja California Sur. The project is called “Adopt a Can” like the adopt a park or highway programs in the USA and Canada.

Bringing this program from our Club to Claudia has created a collaboration for both groups that we hope will grow

into a city-wide project to clean our streets, beaches and seas of trash and debris.

With Yacht Club donations, we can now announce that Club de Yates Los Cabos will be the first of what we hope will be

many more can sponsors. We have made the commitment to have the first 5 on the streets in January and

by March to have 15 Blue Cans with our Logo serving our community.

The intention is to have a kickoff announcement and promotion event in mid-January. Once we have the date, you will all be invited to attend and participate in this exciting project. We will follow the promotion and photos with a no host taco lunch

a short distance from the can site. We hope you can attend; we hope you will donate to this project, and

we can all be proud of Los Cabos Yacht Club doing our part.

ANNUAL BEACH & STREET CLEANUP

One additional mark on your calendar is for the annual beach and street cleanup throughout Baja California Sur and here in

San Jose del Cabo. Many of you participated in the cleanup last year and we all want to show up this year as well.

The date is March 30, 2025, so let’s make it happen!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Club de Yates Los Cabos takes an active interest and effort in the protection of the shores, bays, estuary and open waters of Southern Baja California.

We provide our members with notices and links to clean up events and activities in the area so our participation can aid in the overall effort to

protect local sea life populations and the shore vegetation that supports their sustainability.

As a component to our Youth Sailing Programs, we educate our young sailors and students on the importance of maintaining a healthy environment

for the sustainability of our fragile shores and waters into the future. By providing boating, sailing, swimming and other activities in and on the water

allows the students to enjoy, explore and understand the importance of maintaining a healthy natural environment on a personal level.

This year we are encouraging our Yacht Club Members, the families in our Youth Sailing Programs and the general public to participate in the

annual San Jose Clean Up Day on March 26th.  This date has been designated San Jose Clean Up Day with “The goal is to mobilize 10,000 citizens

(supported by the one thousand strong Los Cabos Restaurant Chamber) to go to one of 10 sites around the city for a massive clean-up.

Go to San Jose Clean Up Day on Facebook if you are inspired to participate.

As part of our mission, our Club de Yates Los Cabos seeks opportunities throughout the year to work collaboratively with other

organizations to protect the environment and the quality of our local beaches and waters for future generations.
